Maintenance

Wood Burning Stoves & Inserts

We recommend that wood stoves and fireplace inserts be inspected annually. The stove or insert as well as the chimney liner should be cleaned of ash and creosote deposits and inspected for cracks. Door gaskets , firebricks , grates and catalytic combustors should be checked and worn items replaced. Stove connecting pipe should be cleaned and inspected for leaks , rusted or worn sections which should be replaced. Stove and pipe finishes can be touched up with high temperature paint or stove polish.

Gas Stoves

A properly operating gas stove burns very clean and generally requires little maintenance. To ensure top performance we recommend cleaning the stove burner, logs , inside and outside surfaces of the glass every two years. Vent connections and overall vent condition should be checked by a certified technician to ensure safe venting of stove exhaust.

 Pellet/Biomass Stoves

Stoves burning pellets and other biomass fuels such as corn, wheat or switch grass require routine maintenance tasks. Cleaning the ash drawer, burn pot ,fuel hopper and door glass will need to be done periodically throughout the heating season depending on the type of fuel and amount of use. Burning a premium grade pellet fuel significantly reduce cleaning maintenance. Blowers and fuel feed augers should be inspected and cleaned annually. Vents and chimneys should be inspected and cleaned annually.
